Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). Spray a cake tin or baking dish with non-stick spray or grease it with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water and let it bubble for a few minutes. Then pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture and stir until combined. Let the dough rise in a warm spot for about 30 minutes.
  3. While the dough is rising, brew the rooibos tea. In a small saucepan, combine the tea with sugar, golden syrup, and butter. Simmer on low heat until the syrup thickens and becomes sticky.
  4. Once the dough has risen, knead it on a lightly floured surface. Slice off pieces of dough and roll them into small balls.
  5. Place the dough balls into the prepared baking dish, stacking them neatly. Pour the sticky rooibos syrup over the dough balls, ensuring they’re all coated. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the bread is cooked through.
  6. Once baked, add the cubed butter on top of the bread while it’s still warm. Allow it to melt, making the bread extra delicious. Serve warm and enjoy!
