“Don’t live the same day 365 over and over again and call it a life.”
All about Amy
I travelled, worked my way around the world after finishing a degree in Kiln Formed Glass. I am now a chef trainer and food experience consultant for some incredible luxury lodge groups. I also enjoy photography, videography and recipe development for some awesome brands.
A passion for plant-based food
I started playing with plants because I love the colours and textures. I also that eating a more plant balanced diet is a good form of preventative health.
What was the first plant-based recipe you ever created?
Wow, it is hard to nail down the first one. But I started a plant-based market stall at the Oranjezicht City Farmers Market in Cape Town doing mostly salads. So these black bean and avocado cabbage cups were probably one of the first that I photographed.
What is your favourite recipe you’ve created to date?
It has to be my grounding smoothie bowl, recipe below.
Ingredients:
4 bananas
200ml warm water
Half a beetroot juiced
Half a cup of frozen blueberries
A handful of dried hibiscus flowers
1 tsp baobab powder
1 tsp maca powder
1/2 teaspoon pea protein
1 tsp rosehip powder
2 tablespoons macadamia butter
1 tablespoon chia seeds
Method:
Measure out about a cup of warm water and soak your hibiscus flowers in the water while you prep your toppings. I haven’t included the toppings in the ingredients list as you can really add whatever you have – I have added the chia seeds and macadamia butter but you can also add those into the smoothie. Remember that you can have fun with smoothies.
What is your secret weapon when it comes to adding flavour to your cooking?
Smoked paprika and roast garlic.
What first attracted you to the Lifestyle Foods range?
I often do my shopping for healthy foods at Dischem and buy a lot of LF products. I think it is a beautiful brand and I appreciate the type of products.
What’s next for An Earthen Life?
I think 2022 is going to bring more travelling for work into East Africa as well as always growing in the recipe development and photography world – I’m always learning.
